Salon DeFranco opened in 1980, when Anthony DeFranco and Rene Spagnolo took over Peter Coppola’s landmark Great Neck salon and rebuilt it around a single idea: every stylist on the floor should be the best in their lane.
That meant hiring specialists, not generalists. It meant ongoing education as a job requirement, not a perk.
Forty-plus years later, the philosophy has not moved. The team has grown. The product lines have evolved. The chairs have been reupholstered more than once. But the standard — uncompromising work, delivered with the kind of service that makes you want to come back — is exactly what it was on day one.
Niloofar “Niloo” Shemtov is a master hair stylist who has proudly served the Great Neck community for over 35 years. Trained in Israel, Niloo has built a distinguished career growing alongside her clients, styling generations within the same families, including the children of those she began working with decades ago.
She offers expert, full service hair artistry, including precision cutting, master coloring, professional straightening, and extensions. Deeply committed to client education, Niloo ensures every guest leaves her chair not just with a beautiful new look, but with the knowledge and confidence to maintain it at home.
A second-generation hair professional, Nicholas leads the color program, bringing expertise in single-process color, dimensional work, balayage, and color correction. He bought into the salon in 2016, and the color department has carried his fingerprints ever since.
Anthony began his career in 1974 as the top assistant to Peter Coppola, hairdresser to a generation of stars. By 1980 he was an owner. He still cuts, still trains the team, and still treats every chair like an audition.
